NAB 2008

I just got back from a quick trip to NAB in Las Vegas, NV. We just went to check out the trade show floor.

It was absolutely overwhelming - there was everything from satellite communications equipment to consumer cameras. The booths were extremely elaborate (Sony wins my vote), and were completely stocked with top-end equipment.

I found a trend between the large booths - they all had these "petting zoos" (as named by Pete and I). These were elaborate sets filled with color, and well lit. They were surrounded by broadcast cameras with huge lenses and elaborate camera controls open for anyone to walk up to. Then in the middle of it all were models who were sitting and doing absolutely nothing. I found it humorous.

Here are some sights I captured:

Most Patriotic: FCC

Most Buttons:

Most Intriguing:

NAB is amazing.

Heading to Vegas

I am heading to Vegas for a nerdfest.

Mullets are Cool!

World Eats Jimmy

Watch Jimmy Eat the World.

Cheesy Potatoes

I have a bad case of the cheesy potatoes. I should have known better.

Dancing with Hulu

Just finished up watching Man on the Moon on Hulu which is about Andy Kaufman whom is a pretty interesting fellow.

Hulu is pretty cool - you can watch TV shows and movies online free and legally (because it is supported by ads). It also lets you embed clips from movies. So here is a clip from Man on the Moon.

Monkeys

How many bananas can a monkey eat?

"That's what's wrong with America"

Now if you aren't moved by that I don't know what to say...

Steven Anderson is a Pastor of a church in Tempe, AZ called Faithful Word Bible Church
Don't expect anything contemporary or liberal. We are an old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, King James Bible only, separated Baptist church and not ashamed to say so.
Doesn't he look like Jack from Lost?

Well there you have it...

The Internet is a Web that is World Wide

Who ever said that Al Gore invented the Internet? Wikipedia knows all (so says Austin), and wikipedia says that Tim Berners-Lee invented the Internet.

Wikipedia saves the day.

And he is still alive...(not that the Internet is that old)

I wonder what it feels like to have invented the Internet?

Acceptance

It is official. I have been accepted to Belmont University in Nashville, TN.

Wireless Superbowl

The Super Bowl, hosted in my backyard*, has come and passed. I hear it was a pretty historic game, but I could care less. I care less because some other cool things were going on behind-the-scenes. Yes, the Super Bowl was a nerd fest.

I came across some articles talking about the technology being used in this Super Bowl, and let me tell you it is super (no pun intended).

http://www.dailywireless.org/2008/01/22/super-bowl-xlii/
Some 45 “radio cops” will be suiting up for Super Bowl XLII, to organize the use of some 10,000 wireless devices.

Some $3.3 million in cameras will be used including two dozen Sony HDC-1500 cameras ($90,000 each) and four Sony HDC-3300 super slow-motion HD camera systems ($270,000 each).
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/012508-nfl-radio-cops.html?page=1
“At a regular season game, we coordinate 400-500 frequencies,” Voss says. “But at the Super Bowl, that goes up to 2,000 frequencies, and over 10,000 RF devices.”
I am amazed at the complexity, and magnitude of putting an event on like this is. Too bad it is for something as trivial as American Football. No one's going to heaven by going to a football game. Regardless of that, I would still enjoy being part of something like this anytime...

The End.

The After Effect Drug

After seeing this video on how BBC re-created D-Day with a couple of guys, and some intense compositing work, it has spiked my curiosity for learning some different compositing techniques.

Now, I don't know what these guys used to create the end effect, but I do know that Adobe After Effects is a pretty popular program for this kind of stuff. So, I came across this site that offers some pretty good free tutorials that show you how to do some pretty cool stuff for video. That site is Video Copilot.

Now if you are as nerdy as I am about video you might enjoy it. If not then it's your loss.

The End.

No More Reality

According to this article the writers strike is over.

Writers' Strike Eisner - Media * US * News * Story - CNBC.com

However, it seems to based on the inevitability of acceptance by the writers.

This is a good sign.

Super Tuesday

I voted today.
